Levon Hampartzoumian

Levon Hampartzoumian was born on December 26, 1953, in Sofia. He graduated as a chemical engineer. During the socialist years, he worked at “Kremikovtsi” AD and at the Central Institute of Computing Technology. He holds 6 patents in the field of production technologies.

Levon Hampartzoumian is one of the pioneers in the consulting and auditing industry in Bulgaria. In 1992, together with Martin Zaimov, he founded the “Bulgarian Audit Company” – a consulting firm associated with the international network of Coopers & Lybrand. Two years later, they sold their company to Coopers & Lybrand. In the mid-1990s, he headed the “Business Development” department of PricewaterhouseCoopers and later moved to the Bulgarian office of Ernst & Young. He spent 5 years in Canada working as a project consultant with Russia.

In 1997, he was chosen as the honorary consul of Canada in Sofia and held the position later, except during periods when he held positions in the state administration. In Ivan Kostov’s cabinet, Hampartzoumian was Deputy Minister of Economy, and from 2000, he was Executive Director of the Privatization Agency.

In 2001, he became Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Management Board of “UniCredit Bulbank.” He is also Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of BORICA and Chairman of the Management Board of the Association of Banks in Bulgaria.

Currently, he is also a member of the Management Board of the Institute for Market Economics, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” a member of the Board of Trustees of the Higher School of Insurance and Finance, and a member of the Board of Trustees of City University of Seattle in Bulgaria.

Recently, he became Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria (CEIB).

In 2007, the “Atanas Burov” Foundation awarded him the “Burov” prize for banking management. Hampartzoumian has been named “Banker of the Year” twice – by Finance Central Europe magazine in 2005 and by Banker newspaper in 2007. In 2006, Manager magazine awarded him the “Manager of the Year” prize.

The banker is a recipient of the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity (Ordine della Stella della Solidarietà Italiana) and received the title of “Commendatore” from the President of the Republic of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano, in 2008. In 2012, he received the “Manager of the Year” award.
